Kapil Sharma Family

Sharma was born and bought up in a Punjabi family in the city of Amrritsar, Punjab, in a Punjabi family as Kapil Punj. His father late Jeetendra Kumar Punj was the head constable in the Punjab Police, and his mother named Janak Rani is a homemaker. Kapil’s father was diagnosed with cancer in the year 1997 and died in the year 2004 at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi. He completed his schooling at Shri Ram Ashram Senior Secondary School, Amritsar and finished his graduation at Hindu College in Amritsar. He has featured in the lists of the prominent alumni of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar. Alos, Kapil has a brother, Ashok Kumar Sharma, who is the Police constable and has a sister, Pooja Pawan Devgan.

Kapil was in a relationship with Preeti Simoes for eight years. Preeti also worked as Sharma’s manager and their affair begins with the show Comedy nights with Kapil and both of them were together until 2017.

He participated in singing, dancing, and drama competitions during his college days. And at that time, he received several awards. Kapil participates in the Punjab comedy reality show ‘Hasde Hasande Ravo’ in 2006, which airing on MH one. Also, he took part in ‘The Great Punjabi Comedy Show’, and another Punjabi comedy show. 

But he started getting famous from a Hindi Comedy Reality Show ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge Season 3’, in 2007. And won the show with the winning price of INR Rs 10 lakh. In an interview, he stated that in order to become a singer he moved to Mumbai. Also, he participated in many other comedies shows like Hans Baliye in 2009, Ustadon Ka Ustad in 2009, Star Ya Rockstar in 2011, and in 2010-2013, Comedy Circus. 

He won six Seasons of Comedy Circus in a row as Comedy Circus Ke Superstars in 2010, Comedy Circus Ka Jadu in 2010, Jubilee Comedy Circus in 2010-2011, Comedy Circus Ke Tansen in 2011, Comedy Circus Ka Naya Daur in 2011, and Kahani Comedy circus ki 2011-2012.

He hosted a comedy TV show in 2008 named Chote Miyan. In 2013, he hosted Season 6 of ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’. A dance reality show along with the TV host, Manish Paul. 

He also hosted several award shows like Star Guild Awards (2015), 60th Filmfare Awards (2015), 61st Filmfare Awards (2016), and 62nd Filmfare Award (2017).

In 2010 he made his acting debut. By playing the role of Thakur’s son in the Bollywood film named ‘Bhavnao Ko Samjho’.

He got the lead role of ‘Shivkumar Ramakrishnan Punj’ in the year 2015, the Bollywood film named ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon’. The film is a romantic comedy which is direct by Abbas Mustan, with four opposite actresses Manjari Phadnis, Elli Avram, Simran Kaur Mandi, and Sai Lokur. On 25th September 2015, the film was release and did a record-breaking opening day business for a debut. This film received positive reviews from critics. 

In the Bollywood film named ‘Firangi’, he produced and acted in 2017, but unfortunately, the film failed at the box office. 

On 12 October 2018, he produced a Punjabi film named ‘Son of Manjeet Singh’.

Kapil Sharma Comedy Show

Kapil found the K9 productions and is his own production company. He started hosting ‘Comedy nights with Kapil’ his comedy show, under his production house that aired on Colors TV.   Later it became the highest-rated scripted Comedy TV show in India. For 3 years the show ran successfully but because of some differences with Colors TV, the show ended in 2016. 

In the same year 2016, he starts hosting another comedy show names ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ which aired on Sony Entertainment Television. Due to health issues, his show ended in August 2017. 

He again started his comedy show on 25th March 2018 named ‘Family Time with Kapil Sharma’ and hosted along with an actress named Neha Pandse. In the same year on 29 December, his show renews with a new season, ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’. The show is produce by Salman Khan.

On 10 September 2022, ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ started again on Sony Entertainment. One of the main actors of the show Krushna Abhishek left after a monetary difference.

Controversies on Kapil Sharma

He was paid a huge price of rupees 1.25 crore. For hosting the extra innings of the Season 4 Celebrity Cricket League, in 2014. At the very last moment, he refused to host the event. When it was expected of him to co-host the extra innings with Mandira Bedi. Because he did not get a vanity van of his own.

He allegedly misbehaved with his female co-stars named Tanishaa Mukherji, Monali Thakur, and Deepali Sayyad. During the International Marathi Festival Awards in 2015. At first, he denied the allegation, but later, he tweeted. ” I fall, I rise, I make mistakes, I learn, I’ve been hurt, but I am alive. I am human, I am not perfect, but I am thankful 🙂 (sic)”.

On September 9th, 2016, Kapil Sharma tweeted “I am paying Rs fifteen crores income tax from the last 5 years. And still, I have to pay Rs 5 lacs bribes to the BMC office for making my office, Narendra Modi”. He further said, “yeh hai aapke ache din? @narendramodi”. Manohar Pawar the vigilance officer of the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation). Asked him the names of the people who took bribes. And assured him that strict action would be taken against them.

Show Controversies

A complaint was filed against him, when he cracked a joke about a pregnant woman delivering a baby. Through Maharashtra State Commission for Women. The Women activists felt that it was derogatory & insulting, and they could not bear the joke.

After completing the two and a half years of the show Comedy nights With Kapil, in the year 2016. Colors TV claimed that he had demanded repeated hikes in his remuneration. And even violated some clauses in the contract by hosting the rival channel show. As a result, Colors TV parted ways with him.

A complaint against The Kapil Sharma show was filed in the police station. By some nurses and nursing students from Amritsar in the year 2016. The allegation was that their profession was demeaned by objectifying them.
