As he started a campaign for his father in 2004. After that, he joined the Indian National Congress in 2008. In the year 2009, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Kadapa constituency and won. Unfortunately, his father died in 2009 then he started a condolence tour and travelled all over Andhra Pradesh to meet his father’s supporters. But the Andhra Pradesh Congress objected to his tour then he stated that it was his matter, and they shouldn’t intervene. On November 29th, 2010, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy quit the Congress party after a fallout with the Congress leadership and within 45 days he announced that he will form his party. But, the YSRCP lost the elections of 2014, winning only 67 of 175 seats in the state assembly. The Telugu Desam Party votes share went up to 47% and the 2% gap lead to the defeat of YSR Congress Party.

As the leader of the Opposition in the Assembly and YSR Congress Party’s president, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy launched his 3,000 km long walkathon named Praja Sankalpa Yatra, which is known as padayatra, on November 6th, 2017, at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district. In the year 2011, the former state minister of Andhra Pradesh, P Shankar Rao filed a petition against Y S Jagmohan Reddy. He accused him of illegally acquiring money by taking advantage of his father, Rajasekhara Reddy’s position as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. As soon as the employee took the selfie, he slashed Reddy’s left hand with the knife. That employee was arrested and immediately taken in for questioning. But ready suffered an injury and had to operate because the cut was quite Deep. That employee’s name was J Shrinivas Rao. His motive for attacking Jaganmohan wasn’t clear because he had no political background, but the police suspected that he did this to impress some girls.
